HC order on Urdu

Calcutta, Feb. 18: Justice Saumitra Pal of Calcutta High Court today directed authorities of the Dalkhola municipality to print Urdu version of question papers along with Bengali, Hindi and Nepali while appointing employees in vacant state government posts.

Justice Pal said: “According to a recent amended Act, the government offices are bound to put Urdu questions in areas where more than 10 per cent population is Muslim.”

The order followed a petition by some Muslim job applicants in Dalkhola who had applied for vacant posts of attendants and mazdoors in the local municipality but failed to understand the questions in the test as there was no Urdu version.
