Ian breaks his silence

Sydney: He hasn’t spoken publicly since entering rehab earlier this month, but Ian Thorpe has broken his silence to congratulate a fellow athlete.

The swimming champion updated his Twitter account for the first time since October last year to commend Australian snowboarder Torah Bright, who won the country’s first medal at the Winter Olympics.

Bright earned the silver medal in the women’s half-pipe final at Sochi, making it the first on the tally for the Australian team.

Thorpe, who was checked into rehab on February 3 as he battles depression, took to Twitter to publicly congratulate Torah.

‘A huge congratulations to @TorahBright for her amazing performance,’ the champion swimmer tweeted.

‘Awesome to watch.’
