Score big in first innings: Wright

Bangalore: Two former India coaches, John Wright and Gary Kirsten, were at the IPL auction here.

After the two-day affair got over, on Thursday evening, both spoke to The Telegraph briefly.

While Wright has been with the Mumbai Indians from last year, Kirsten joined the Delhi DareDevils recently.

Excerpts from their answers on India’s poor performances overseas...

WRIGHT: You need to begin a tour with confidence and, clearly, have to bat well. In a Test match, you have to score big in the first innings. You have no hope if you total 200-odd... Having coached India, I feel bad.

KIRSTEN: Momentum makes so much of a difference and, right now, the momentum is with New Zealand... Why does India keep tripping? I can’t say, for I’m not with the team. If there are issues, they need to be addressed.
