Calcutta, Feb. 10: The Tax Administration Reform Commission, set up by the finance ministry to look into the process of tax collection, is looking to submit its first report in May.

“We are speaking with industry and tax department officials. Work is going on at a steady pace. We are expecting to submit the first report by the end of May,” Parthasarathi Shome, who heads the commission, said on the sidelines of an event of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce here today.

The adviser to finance minister P. Chidambaram said the committee was looking to give its recommendations on the procedure of tax collection and the administrative changes that can be introduced to make the system more effective.

“Among the issues that we would look into are the interaction between the tax officer and the taxpayer. We would also consider the training aspect of tax officers. The objective is to make the process more customer friendly,” said Shome.
