Shankar claims top honour

Imphal, Feb. 9: Ninth seed Y. Shankar today clinched the championís title of the E. Kunjeswor Memorial First State-Level Open Chess Tournament, played at Lizard community hall in Wangkhei here.

In seventh and final round, Shankar beat fifteenth seed N. Boboycha to finish with 18 points and a progressive score of 66 for the top title. Third seed N. Bangkim claimed the second spot beating L. Koireng, while fifth seed L. Atembigot finished third beating O. Ningthem. Top seed Rk. Apollosana finished eighth.

MCA cricket

All-rounder Rohit Singhís 21 runs and four-wicket haul helped his team Oscar beat Western Cricket Association by 23 runs in the 1st MCA Plate Tournament at Luwangpokpa cricket stadium today.

Batting first, Oscar were bowled out for 118 runs in 30 overs. Gemson Singh and Heman Singh both scored 26 runs. Western bowlers Parri and Kala Singh bagged three wickets each.

In reply, Western were bundled out for 95 in 23.1 overs, with Jellish topscoring with 38 runs.

Eastern Sporting Union will take on Force Khetrigao tomorrow.

Selection: The Manipur Strength Lifting Association has selected Ph. Naocha Devi, L. Pusparani Devi, N. Babita Devi and S. Anita Devi for the 20th Junior Menís, Womenís, the 20th Senior and Master Menís and Womenís National Strength Lifting Championship and the 4th Senior Menís and Womenís National Incline Bench Press Championship in Howrah, Bengal. Kh. Ningthem Singh will accompany the players.

Veteranís T20: The Manipur Veteran Cricket Association is organising a T20 Veteranís Cricket Tournament from February 18 at Langthabal public ground in Imphal West.
