Two held in Ambari case

Siliguri, Feb. 6: Two persons were arrested last night in connection with the murder of four alleged cattle rustlers at Balaram in Ambari.

Shahidul Mohammad and Lutfar Rehman were remanded in police custody for nine days by the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Jalpaiguri today. Mohammad is a resident of Bhandarigach, a village adjacent to Balaram, while Rehman is from Rajganj.

While two charred bodies had been spotted in a car that was gutted, the others were found dead 100-150m away at Balaram on February 2 morning. The burnt body of a cow was also found in the car near the India-Bangladesh border.

The police arrested Nanu Mohammad on Tuesday in connection with the incident.

“We were conducting raids and could arrest two more persons last night. Both of them were involved in the case. We will interrogate them to obtain more information,” said S. Rajkumar, the additional commissioner of police, Siliguri (east).
