Bangkim Singh wins

Imphal, Feb. 6: Third seed N. Bangkim Singh registered his second victory to collect full points in the E. Kunjeswor Singh Memorial First State Level Open Chess Tournament which got under way at Lizard Community Hall at Wangkhei in Imphal East.

It was a mixed day for top seed Rk. Apollosana as he managed a draw while second seed Kh. Sanjoy Singh was defeated.

In the second round match, third seed N. Bangkim Singh defeated Ph. Surjakanto to collect full points while top seed Rk. Apollosana Singh drew with M. Rendra to bag one point each. Second seed Kh. Sanjoy Singh lost to L. Koireng.

L. Yemen upset ninth seeded Y. Shankar to garner full points to stay on six points. Other players — A. Romio, Ph. Gopeshor, N. Babumacha, Y. Yaisana, L. Shakespeare, O. Ningthem, A. Sharat, S. Samson, L. Sarokumar, Th. Sunilkumar, N. Tolpishak, Rk. Pakasana, S. Lolendro, L. Ibungo, S. Robindro and L. Ibungomacha — won today.

Tennis meet: The 23rd inter-district tennis tournament of All Assam Tennis Association for the year 2013-14 will be hosted by Nagaon Tennis Club from March 28 to 30.

The events to be held include boys’ and girls’ under-14 and under-18, men and women’s tennis.

GTC Chess: The 10th edition of the GTC Chess Grand Prix will be held at Gauhati Town Club here on Sunday. There will be the usual prizes for the top 10 players as well as for the top three players in all the age categories. The last date for confirming entries is Saturday.
