U-16 Lajong team in FC Bayern Cup

Guwahati, Feb. 5: An under-16 boys’ team of Shillong Lajong FC will participate in the FC Bayern Youth Cup to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on February 8 and 9.

The seven-a-side football tournament is being organised by sports goods manufacturer Adidas and 10 boys will represent Shillong Lajong.

Those representing the northeastern outfit include Afridi Warjri, Batskhem Nongsiej, George Vannie Lyngdoh, Gideon Lyngdoh, Guidingstar Malieh, Kenstar Kharshong, Lalmalsawma Tariang, Samkhain Lato, N. Sana Singh and Wungyam Muirang.

Apart from Shillong Lajong, several other I-League club under-16 teams are participating in the tournament.

The boys have been training hard for the tournament and will be looking to impress scouts from FC Bayern along with the legendary Paul Breitner who will watch the young players in action.

FC Bayern will then select a team of 10 players to represent India at the FC Bayern Youth Cup finals in Munich in May.

The hunt for the country's best under-16 footballers started in New Delhi in October with the launch of the programme in the presence of former India skipper Bhaichung Bhutia and actor John Abraham.
