Security up for Dalai Lama visit

Shillong, Feb. 2: Meghalaya has put in place tight security ahead of the maiden visit of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, from tomorrow.

The Dalai Lama will be in the state capital for three days where he will be attending various programmes.

The sikyong (Prime Minister) of the Tibetan government in exile, Lobsang Sangay, is accompanying the spiritual leader.

“Stringent security arrangements have been made for the Tibetan spiritual leader during his stay here,” a senior Meghalaya police official said.

The spiritual leader will land at the advanced landing ground in Upper Shillong tomorrow, following which, he will deliver the address at the 6th convocation of the Martin Luther Christian University.

On Tuesday, the Dalai Lama will pay a visit to the Tibetan monastery at Upper Lumparing. He will also conduct a spiritual teaching session at the Polo Grounds.

An inter-faith meeting has been convened on Wednesday at the U Soso Tham auditorium where the Dalai Lama will also attend.
