Food act

Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) hosted an event, future of trading in foodgrain, at Chambers Bhavan in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, on January 21. Referring to Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, the main issue of the event, SCCI vice-president Bharat Vasani said all the businesses with a stake in either food, medicines, beverages or any edible commodity, comes under the purview of this Act. The onus of getting eligible business outfits registered is on the respective state governments. In Jharkhand, the deadline for all such registrations is February 2014. In response, the SCCI has approached the national outfit Confederation of All India Traders, asking for the latter’s help in asking the Centre to extend the deadline

Affordable fashion

Max, a division of Lifestyle International (P) Ltd, and a leading Indian "value fashion" brand, opened its first store in Jharkhand on January 23. The 15,000sqft Max store is on Ranchi Main Road near Overbridge. “The three-storey store offers over 10,000 designs in apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and children,” said Max executive director Vasanth Kumar. Road to progress

Maithon Power Limited, a joint venture of Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), has constructed a 650m pre-stressed cement concrete (PCC) road between Poiladih and Gogna villages in Dhanbad district to facilitate better connectivity.
