Call for diary

Guwahati, Jan. 31: Gauhati High Court today called for the case diary and other records of a disproportionate assets case registered against Congress MLA and parliamentary secretary for public health engineering department Chandan Sarkar.

Justice Arup Kumar Goswami passed the order today while hearing a petition filed by Sarkar in the high court seeking quashing of a criminal proceeding against him at the court of special judge, Assam, in connection with the case.

Appearing on behalf of Sarkar, senior Delhi-based lawyer V.L. Hansaria argued that the special judge had taken cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the vigilance and anti-corruption branch of Assam police against Sarkar without having the necessary sanction from the state government, which is required in case of a public servant.
