Five city eves in state T20 side

Five women cricketers from the steel city have found slots in the 15-member Jharkhand outfit for inter-state T20 tournament (Plate group) to be held in Dhanbad from February 2.

Besides the five from Jamshedpur, the team will have three players each from Bokaro and Ranchi, two from Dhanbad and one each from West Singhbhum and Deogarh.

Apart from Jharkhand, Karnataka, Tripura, Saurashtra, Goa and Delhi will be vying for top honours during the slam-bang matches.

The T20 tourney was earlier scheduled in Dhanbad from January 18 to 30 but was postponed to February 2.

The state outfit comprises Reena Singh, Subhi Pandey, Rini Burman, Komal Hora and Devyani Prasad from Jamshedpur and Kavita Roy, Seema Singh and Reena Singh from Ranchi. While Niharika Prasad, Kanak Lata and Shobha Kumari Thakur represent Bokaro, Nilam Yadav and Rita Yadav hail from Dhanbad. Priyanka Sawaiya and Roshni Kanojia are from West Singhbhum and Deogarh, respectively.

While Kavita will be skipper, Niharika has been made her deputy. Capital girl Kavita was also part of the senior East Zone side this season, while Priyanka and Devyani were part of junior zonal outfit.

Some of the selected players played in the Jharkhand State Cricket Association inter-zone T20 tourney, which ended in Dhanbad on Wednesday.

Assistant secretary of the state cricket outfit Aseem Kumar Singh is optimistic of a good show. “We have a bunch of experienced players and they are expected to perform well,” Singh added.
