Karim, Katsumi spat

Karim Bencharifa & Katsumi Yusa, on Wednesday

Calcutta: There were frayed tempers and loads of drama at the Mohun Bagan ground, on Wednesday morning. Coach Karim Bencharifa and Katsumi Yusa had an altercation but after a couple of hours, the duo came out, saying things have been sorted out.

The altercation began after Katsumi misbehaved with a support staff, which wasn’t to Karim’s liking.

“He told Katsumi to behave, but the latter refused to listen. They had a chat on the sidelines. As the media sensed there was enough fodder for a juicy story, Karim called off the practice session and headed straight to the dressing room,” said a senior player.

After two hours, Katsumi first came out and spoke to the media. “I am responsible for the loss against Churchill Brothers in the Federation Cup semi-final. The team lost because of me. I should not have lost that ball, which led to the second goal.

“Today I lost my cool. But I realised it was very unprofessional on my part. So I apologised to the coach,” Katsumi said.

Karim, however, praised Katsumi’s work ethic. “He is a true professional. Sometimes, though, you do react differently. “There is no problem at all. We have settled it at the dressing room,” the Moroccan said.
