Fest fever at college

Ranchi, Jan. 25: It’s festive season at St Xavier’s College with one cultural event lined after another. While a two-day students’ film festival — Cynosure 2014 — concluded on Thursday, Xavier Utsav started the next day itself.

The fest revved off yesterday with contests in debate, extempore, creative writing, poem composition and elocution in Hindi and English. A quiz contest was also organised the same day.

Today, students from the college showed their prowess in rangoli, face painting, flower arrangement, collage making and cartooning competitions. Preliminary selection for group singing and dance contests was also held.

As per earlier schedule, no events had been slotted for January 26 and 27. However, sources among the organisers said the preliminary rounds of some of the events would be held tomorrow.

“Though it was planned otherwise, prelims and auditions for a few events like rock show will be held tomorrow,” informed Kamal Bose, head of Hindi department and convener of the fest.

Cultural and theatrical events will be held on January 28, the penultimate day of the festival. Dance contests in solo, group, street and folk categories have also been slated for that day, along with mimicry and mime competitions.

The concluding day of the fest has been earmarked for the musical events. Besides group singing and dance events, Antakshari and rock band contests will be held on the day, following which prizes will be handed over to the winners of the various competitions.

“We look forward to this fest, not only because it provides us with a fun time but also how the various events reveal students’ hidden talents,” said Raja Kumar Sahu, student of mass communication department.
