SRK dodges crashing door

- Actor escapes with minor injuries

Mumbai, Jan. 23: A “quick on his feet” Shah Rukh Khan got away with minor bruises today after an 80kg door came off its hinges and fell while the Bollywood superstar was shooting a stunt scene for an upcoming film.

A member of the production crew said the 48-year-old actor was “largely able to dodge” the falling door, which was part of the film’s set.

“Mr Khan had a minor accident on the sets while shooting. He has a minor injury and has got the necessary medical aid. Mr Khan is absolutely fine now. Thank you for all your wishes!” the actor’s office said in a statement released within an hour of the freak accident.

Shah Rukh, who had returned to Mumbai from Hyderabad yesterday after addressing Microsoft employees at an “internal, motivational event” on Tuesday, was in the middle of a choreographed stunt as part of a dance number for Farah Khan’s film Happy New Year when the door came off.

“Shah Rukh was in the midst of the scene when an 80kg door — part of the film’s set — became unhinged and fell on him. But Shah Rukh was quick on his feet and was largely able to dodge it. The impact left him with cuts on his hand and forehead. Everybody panicked as it reminded us all of Mr Bachchan’s Coolie accident,” the production-crew member said.

People flocked outside Juhu’s Nanavati hospital for a glimpse of King Khan minutes after he was rushed to the emergency ward with a bleeding hand and face around 2 in the afternoon.

The hospital is a kilometre away from JW Marriott hotel where SRK was shooting.

Shah Rukh’s wife Gauri Khan rushed to Nanavati minutes after he was taken to the hospital.

“Shah Rukh had minor injuries for which he required first aid. He was then taken to the hospital’s physiotherapy centre run by Dr Ali Irani to check whether the impact of the accident had injured any of his operated joints, especially his shoulder for which he underwent arthroscopy two years back. Thankfully, there was no problem. He has been discharged from the hospital and advised to take an MRI scan of the body later to rule out any internal injuries, though all seems fine apparently,” said a doctor at Nanavati Hospital.

Shah Rukh went back home with Gauri an hour later, around 3.30pm.

The actor, who has had eight surgeries for injuries sustained during his 26-year career, is expected to get back to work soon.

Bollywood’s original superstar, Amitabh Bachchan, had suffered a near fatal injury in 1982 while shooting a scene for Coolie.

Today, it was Bachchan’s son Abhishek who rushed Shah Rukh to hospital along with Farah Khan.
