Strong team for soccer tie

Jharkhand footballers will be looking to give their best performances when they hit the field in the 68th edition of National Championship for Santosh Trophy at Gangtok from January 26 to February 4.

The 22-member squad, announced by the Jharkhand Football Association on Wednesday, is a mix of youth and experience and is capable of withstanding pressure in crunch situations.

The state squad was among the top eight teams in the last edition of the tie. But, given the composition of the present side, it is likely to advance beyond the quarter final this time.

“We would certainly like to do better this time. The side is strong and balanced. Most of the boys were part of Jamshedpur Sporting Association side, which won the state tourney in Hazaribagh recently,” said Mehta, while announcing the squad at Armoury grounds.

Nine players from Jamshedpur, five from Tata Football Academy, four from Ranchi and one each from Koderma, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh and Bokaro have made it to the state squad.

Md Shafique and Ravinder Murmu will accompany the squad as coach and manager, respectively.
