Calcutta: Unseeded Shweta Sangwan of India stunned second seed Yijia Shao of China 6-2, 6-3 in the ongoing ONGC ITF Junior Tennis Championship, at the DKS on Monday.

Top seed Pranjala Yadlapalli of India, was also stretched to the limits by Chinese Taipei’s Yu Ting Hsieh, but the 14-year-old eventually managed to pull it off 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Third seed P. Plipuech of Thailand went down fighting against India’s Nandini Das 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.

Pranjala, who won the ITF meet in Chandigarh before losing in the semis in Delhi, started off well, but failed to maintain the momentum in the second set. “I was missing quite a few in the second set… Actually, after playing on the hard courts in Delhi, I was struggling to adjust a bit on the clay courts here… Hopefully, things will fall in place from now,” said Pranjala.

Last week’s boys singles champion in Delhi, unseeded Mandresy Rakotomalala from France, defeated eighth seed Cing Yang Meng 6-3,6-4.
