KLO posters

Alipurduar, Jan. 16: Police today put up posters of seven suspected Kamtapur Liberation Organisation militants across Alipurduar subdivision, seeking information from the public about their movement.

The posters had the pictures of KLO chairman Jiban Singh, Tom Adhikary, central committee member Nilambar Rajbangshi, Nityananda alias Jamai (Shyam Roy), who is the commander-in-chief, Shibu, assistant general secretary Iqbal Siddiki and Rahul.

Akash Magharia, the additional superintendent of police, Alipurduar, said: “We have pasted posters of seven KLO militants in different areas right from Kumargram to Jaigaon in the subdivision to collect information about them. We assure the public that the identity of those who give information about the militants will be kept secret and they will be provided with cash prize.”

The posters came up at ATM counters and other centres thronged by the public.

Intelligence sources said some KLO militants were planning to enter Alipurduar subdivision to carry out subversive activities. They also said some of the seven KLO militants whose pictures had been put up were moving along the Assam and Bhutan borders.

The KLO has called a 24-hour strike in north Bengal and four adjoining districts in Assam from 5am tomorrow.

The outfit wants a separate Kamtapur state to be carved out of north Bengal and the four Assam districts.

The KLO was accused of carrying out a blast in Jalpaiguri on December 26, killing six persons, and opening fire on a private bus in Malda district the next day.
