Graft case against engineers

New Delhi, Jan. 16: The CBI today booked 14 engineers and the proprietor of a Delhi-based firm for alleged conspiracy and cheating in supply of sewerage equipment to the Delhi Jal Board during 2009-12.

Besides supplying drinking water, the board deals with sewage management. The accused have been charged with cheating the government to the tune of Rs 6 crore by supplying spurious or cheap equipment at exorbitant rates.

“The officials of the DJB allegedly entered into a conspiracy with Metro Projects and Sales Services Pvt Ltd and its promoter Raman Gupta,” a CBI spokesperson said.

Sources said the DJB had cleared Mumbai-based Esenpro for the supply. But the officials conspired with Gupta, who forged letterheads of Esenpro’s regional manager, saying his firm was the authorised supplier of Esenpro equipment. The CBI has seized over 100 such letters, the sources said.
