art of the matter

The art auction on the first day of the Calcutta Club International Evening will see 13 paintings going under the hammer. A special preview of these paintings for a “niche crowd” was organised on Sunday. “We wanted to give a preview of the 13 paintings so people could have an idea about the painters and the paintings. Some people have confirmed they like certain paintings and if the paintings don’t meet the reserve price at the auction, they’d like to buy them,” said Kunal Roy Chowdhury, the president of Calcutta Club. The proceeds will go to the Calcutta Club Centenary Scholarship fund, started seven years ago in the centenary year of the heritage club, and “will be used to educate five underprivileged children for undergraduate courses, be it medicine, engineering or liberal arts”, said Roy Chowdhury.
