6 rebels arrested from Palamau

Ranchi, Jan. 8: Six rebels of Tritiya Prastuti Committee and Jharkhand Prastuti Committee were arrested today from different parts of Palamau district.

Tritiya Prastuti Committee area commander Ajay Bhuiyan, who had threatened Daltonganj MLA K.N. Tripathi with dire consequences, and his aide Dhaneshwar Ram were nabbed after a fierce chase in Nawadih village. An AK47 rifle was also seized from Bhuiyan.

In another raid in Dulsulma village in Satbarwa police station area of Palamau district, the police caught four Jharkhand Prastuti Committee rebels. A revolver, countrymade pistols, cartridges, five mobile phones, 17 SIM cards and as many set of camouflage uniform were also recovered from them.

Those arrested have been identified as Rang Bhadur Singh alias Rakeshji, Sanjay Singh, Indra Deo Singh and Nand Deo Singh.

Group leader Rang Bahadur has been to jail at least thrice before. Over eight criminal cases are pending against him at different police stations of the district.

“On December 22, 2013, this group had demanded Rs 2 lakh levy from an engineer engaged in installing a power sub-station here. We were looking for them for long,” said deputy superintendent of police Ajay Kumar.

The Jharkhand Prastuti Committee is popularly known as a splinter group of Tritiya Prastuti Committee. Such splinter groups mainly engage in extortion.

Like yesterday, a newly floated organisation, Green Army, torched three trucks in Tutuwapani locality in Gurdari police station area of Gumla district. They also snatched away cash and mobile phones from the truck drivers and fired in the air to scare them.
