Four die in accidents

Four persons died in accidents between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon. A truck hit a van-puller on BK Pal Avenue on Tuesday. Another man died after being hit by a tanker at Girish Park. A student was fatally injured after falling off a minibus on MG Road on Monday. A vehicle mowed down a man near Prinsep Ghat.

Metro snag

A snag disrupted Metro services for 15 minutes on Tuesday. The fault was detected at the crossover point at Dum Dum around 2.20pm when the driver of an empty rake was trying to change tracks.

Chit fund

Rameswar Poddar, the owner of Barasat-based deposit mobilising company, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of misappropriation of funds. Police said six depositors had lodged complaints that Poddar, the owner of the Ramel Group of Industries, were not clearing their dues.


A concert of Giuseppe Verdiís Arias and Choruses with orchestra, to be conducted by Marco Balderi, will be held at St. Paulís Cathedral on Saturday from 7pm. The consulate general of Italy and ICCR are organising the event.
