Trainee IAS officer dies in car crash

Patna, Nov. 6: A Bihar cadre trainee IAS officer, Nishant Kumar, died in a road accident near Moga in Punjab early this morning.

He was a resident of Bishunpur Shivaji Nagar in Begusarai, around 125km northeast of Patna.

Nishant’s uncle Arun Kumar Rai said the accident occurred when Nishant, along with three other trainee officers, was returning to Jalandhar from Takhtupura village after attending a training course in an SUV. It rammed into a tree causing injuries to all the four occupants, he added.

Nishant succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, while his three colleagues were struggling for their lives.

“Nishant was a promising student and had ranked 148 in the civil services examination conduced by the Union Public Service Commission,” he said, adding that he was allotted the home cadre.

Begusarai district magistrate said Nishant’s body would arrive at Patna tomorrow by a morning flight. His body would be brought to the town from the state capital in a vehicle provided by the Patna district administration, he added.
