A 4-way race for IPL post

Chennai: Till late on Saturday, two former India captains — Gundappa Viswath and Anil Kumble — were in contention for the IPL chairman’s post.

But Kumble, who heads the Karnataka State Cricket Association, faces an election just weeks from now and, so, that may have some bearing when the decision is taken.

According to well-placed sources of The Telegraph, the names of administrators Ranjib Biswal (Odisha) and Amitabh Choudhary (Jharkhand) were also doing the rounds.

Both Biswal and Choudhary are considered “close” to the Board of Control for Cricket in India president Narayanswamy Srinivasan.

One understands the decision on who succeeds Union minister Rajeev Shukla will “only” be taken by Srinivasan.

Did anybody have a doubt as to who was calling the shots?

However, Srinivasan has the support of all affiliates from South and East. He’ll, therefore, have to tread carefully in making the decision.
