Killer crater claims one

Jamshedpur, June 15: Reckless driving and a pothole-riddled road spelt death for a biker today.

A resident of Dimna Road, Dilip Kumar Singh (28) was killed when he came under the wheels of a truck near Sitaramdera bus terminus on Bhuiyandih Road at 10am. The pillion rider, his elder brother Dhananjay Singh (32), escaped with minor bruises.

A seriously injured Dilip was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital at Sakchi, where he was declared brought dead.

Truck driver Mohammed Zashir (45) tried to flee, but was nabbed by bystanders.

“We have arrested Zashir and seized the truck as well as the bike,” said officer-in-charge I.B. Ojha .

Eyewitnesses, however, claimed that it was the biker’s mistake. They also blamed the civic guardians for the state of the road. “Authorities should ensure that the road, which witnesses huge traffic, is repaired from time to time,” said a passer-by.
