Dhubri, June 14: Subhan Ali, branch manager of the South Salmara branch of Jivandeep Company Ltd, a private finance company, was arrested by Kharuabandha police of Dhubri district from Krishnai in Goalpara district last night.
Ali was produced before the Dhubri court of first class magistrate A. Ala, who sent him to judicial custody today till June 28, officer- in-charge of Kharuabandha police station, Sarbewar Roy, said. Ali was arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by the depositors in South Salmara police station on March 19, 2013, alleging non-payment of money after maturity, he added.
Roy said three more officials and employees of the chit fund company, against whom FIRs have been lodged, are still at large. Two of them are from Gossaigaon of Kokrajhar district.
“After having received specific information about Subhan Ali taking shelter at Krihnai in Goalpara district, a police team was sent from Kharuabandha which arrested him last night,” Roy said.
He said the sum collected by the company from various branches of Dhubri and Goalpara districts would run into several crores of rupees.
As far as the South Salmara branch office is concerned, the amount would be nearly Rs 1 crore, based on the passbooks of depositors submitted to the investigating police officer, Roy said.
Ali was booked under Sections 420 and 406 IPC.
Two days ago, Abdul Rahim Sheikh, an agent of many chit fund companies, was arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by a depositor, Hasimal Bewa of Ujan Petla village.
Dhubri SP Mridulananda Sarma said branch manager of Dhubri’s Saradha Reality India Pvt. Ltd, Abdul Kader Sheikh, would be arrested soon.
