Manipur players move ahead

Imphal, May 5: H. Devasis registered Manipurís first win, defeating Thejkser Khate of Nagaland by 2-1 sets in the 2nd North East Cash Prize Tennis Championship at Officersí Club, Lamphelpat today.

The menís singles event saw Devasis beat Thejkser Khate 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 en route to the second round. Vaikho Zolie Khate of Nagaland had a comprehensive victory against Ak. Birchandra of Manipur.

The other matches of the menís single events saw Y. Leelenjee of Manipur, defeating compatriots Rk. Pritam Singh 6-0, 6-0 while T. Brojen Singh of Manipur beat Iciraibe Salie of Nagaland 6-3,6-4.

In another all-Manipur battle, T. Bona Singh defeated T. Bonny 6-2, 7-6 while in the womenís singles event, K. Busoria of Manipur beat K. Pakpi 6-4, 6-0. N. Amrita of Manipur defeated compatriot O. Monika Devi 6-1, 6-3 en route to the second round. Players from Nagaland, Mizoram, Silchar, Manipur and Tripura are participating in the meet.
