Lawyer murder protest

The district bar association lawyers have decided to go on an indefinite strike from Monday to protest the murder of Ram Kumar Thakur on Saturday night.

Thakur, a lawyer, was shot dead in Purshottampur village under Maniyari police station while returning to Ratnoli village from the district court. Association president Shiv Mohan and general secretary Sachidanand Singh demanded arrest of the criminals.

The association has demanded a probe by city deputy superintendent of police Upendra Prasad. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajesh Kumar said the station house officer of Maniyari police station, Mohammad Safar Alam, has been suspended in this connection. “The SHO has been accused of hobnobbing with the accused in the FIR lodged by the relatives of the deceased,” said the SSP. The police would also probe the SHO’s role and lapses on his part.

The SSP said the named accused in the FIR, mukhiya Raj Kumar Sahni, was locked in a dispute with Thakur.
