Assam emerge on top

Guwahati, Feb. 27: Assam winded up their East Zone women’s T20 cricket tournament with a five-wicket win over Tripura to finish the campaign as unbeaten zonal champions. In their last match at Dhanbad today, put in to bat, Tripura were restricted to 100 for six and the Assam women achieved the target losing five wickets in 19.2 overs. Skipper Reema Malhotra topscored for Assam with an undefeated 24 and Ritu Dhrub contributed a solid knock of 22.

A. Das of Tripura bagged three wickets for 16 runs while Priyanka Acharjee and S. Debbarma picked up one each. Earlier, opener M. Debnath topscored for Tripura with 32 and middle order batsman A. Das scored 21. Dayabati Singha and Latika Kumari of Assam bagged two wickets each, giving away 12 and 30 runs respectively. Assam had opened the campaign beating Bengal by seven wickets in their first match on Saturday and got the better of hosts Jharkhand by seven wickets on Sunday in Jamshedpur. At Dhanbad, Assam beat Odisha by six wickets yesterday.

The Assam Cricket Association today announced a cash incentive of Rs 10,000 for each member of the team.
