Luck went my way: Moises Henriques

- ‘Unfortunate that Dhoni chose to play such a knock against us’

Chennai: Moises Henriques isn’t losing hope while admitting that he was a bit lucky in managing to push the Test into the final day.

Moises remained unbeaten on 75 after battling 136 minutes to forge an unbroken 57-run last wicket partnership with Nathan Lyon.

“It is a tough wicket to bat on. I think the bounce was uneven and a couple of balls hit my gloves in the early part of the innings… I was lucky enough that those balls went straight to the ground. Sometime luck went my way today.

“The Indian team has quality spinners… It became difficult when they hit the rough and the balls were jumping. The ball that Phillip Hughes and Shane Watson got popped up and they really could not do much. I think if you get out like that then you know you cannot really do anything about it,” the debutant said at the end of the day’s play.

The Australians are ahead by 40 runs and Henriques is not setting any target.

“I guess whatever we get tomorrow has to be enough. Nathan did a fantastic job and if he keeps batting like this tomorrow, hopefully I can squeeze some more runs. We will not be setting targets but we will be batting as long as we can,” he said.

Staying positive is what is going to be their aim. “We have not lost this Test yet. Certainly, there is lot of hope. You just do not know what will happen tomorrow. Obviously it is stacked against us at the moment. But we are going to be the under dogs. Whether it is rain or whatever, you just never know...”

He described Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s innings as amazing. “It is unfortunate that he chose to play such kind of a knock against us... It was amazing. With everyone of us in the deep. he hit the ropes. It was a terrific knock. I do not know what else I could say. I am playing my first Test. I have never countered anything like that before.

“When he first came in to bat there were a couple of chances for us but couple of balls disappeared in the mid-wicket too. We all knew it is tough to start in that situation. But, Dhoni just made batting look so easy.”

What has been his experience on his debut Test?

“It has been a fantastic experience whether I contributed or not. Representing Australia is amazing. As I said earlier, to be on the same field with players like Sachin (Tendulkar), (Virender) Sehwag, Dhoni, Harbhajan and Clarke, you have to keep pinching yourself!”
