Genesis lift trophy
- Manoj Malo’s century steers club to victory

Guwahati, Feb. 20: A century by Manoj Malo helped Genesis Club lift the Servo 20th Guwahati Challenge Trophy cricket tournament trophy, defeating Navajyoti Club by six wickets in the final at Judges Field here today.

Put in bat, Ranji player Parvez Aziz missed a ton only by two runs as Navajyoti Club were all out for 184 in the regulation 40 overs. In reply, Genesis reached 190 for four in 36 overs.

Parvez Aziz topscored for Navajyoti with 98 facing 93 balls off, during which he slammed 13 fours and two sixes. Teammates Arminder Singh Oberoi and Nipon Deka were the other notable scorers for the side, having contributed 33 (4x4, 6x1) and 19 respectively.

Debajit Das of Genesis accounted for three dismissals conceding 33 runs, while Railways’ Ranji player Ranjit Mali claimed two for 29 and Roshan Basfore chipped in with one.

Malo scored 123, laced with 16 boundaries facing 121 balls, while Basfore and Sadek Imran Choudhury remained not out on 19 (6x1) and 12 (6x2) respectively.

Bikash Chetri of Navajyoti notched up three wickets for 44 runs and Abhinav Konwar picked up one for 25. Malo was named Man of the Match and Man of the Tournament for having cracked two tons and a half century. Sunzow Brahma of Navajyoti Club was adjudged the Best Batsman and Debajit Das of Genesis, who scalped 11 wickets, the Best Bowler.

Utpal Medhi of Genesis was named the Best Fielder and Nishanta Bordoloi of Navajyoti was awarded for the best catch of the final. Ranjit Changmai of hosts River Rine Club was adjudged the Best Wicketkeeper.
