Neeraj steers Navarang win

Guwahati, Jan. 31: Neeraj Tiwari shone with an unbeaten half-century in Navarang Club’s eight-wicket victory against Radial Club, Nagaon, in today’s Group A league match of the Spinner 10000 Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge Invitation Cricket Tournament at Nehru Stadium here.

The visitors, put to bat first, were bowled out for a modest total of 162 in 39.1 overs. Navarang made 166 for two in 31 overs.

Thanks to a brilliant 74 not out by Tiwari, laced with six hits to the ropes and two over them, the home side had a smooth ride to the target. He was named Man of the Match.

Apart from Tiwari, Utpal Medhi scored 44 (4x2, 6x2) and Manoj Malo chipped in with 27 (4x5).

Yasnil Haque and Amlan Baruah of Radial picked up a wicket each, giving away 27 and 39 runs respectively.

Earlier, Ranji player Dhiraj Goswami top-scored for Radial with a steady knock of 45 (4x5, 6x1), while Deepjyoti Goswami made 24 that included three fours and a six. Bipin Arya (17, 4x4) was another notable scorer for the side.

Rakesh Gohil of Navarang notched up three wickets for 26 runs while Bikram Chetri and Azahar Ali took two each for 35 and 38 respectively.

Radial Club will meet Santipur Athletic Club in tomorrow’s match.
