Imphal club beats ARC, retains title

Imphal, Jan. 18: Defending champions North Eastern Reorganising Cultural Association, Imphal retained the championís title in the 56th Sir Churchand Memorial Football Tournament, defeating Assam Regimental Centre (ARC), Shillong 3-1 via tiebreak at Khuman Lampak main stadium here today.

North Eastern won the championís title for the third time.

Both the teams remained goalless during regulation time.

North Eastern had six golden opportunities to score but failed to convert them.

Similarly Assam Regimental Centre had two opportunities but both the goals were saved by the North Eastern goalkeeper.

In the penalty shootout, North Eastern converted three goals while two goals were saved by Assam Regimental Centre goalkeeper Hauggolal.

Assam Regimental Centre could convert only one goal. The team has 10 players from Manipur. Two are international players while the rest are national players. North Eastern have one international player.
