Lajong to try out Japanese striker

Taisuke Matsugae

Guwahati, Jan. 18: Shillong Lajong FC will try out Japanese striker Taisuke Matsugae when they clash with Pailan Arrows in the 17th round match in Calcutta on Sunday.

The 30-year-old Matsugae, who has been in India for some time, is on a two-week trial with the Shillong club.

“The striker has been training with the Lajong squad but no final decision has been taken on whether the J-League footballer will be signed by the club as the fourth foreigner in their ranks,” a club communique said. Matsugae previously played in Japan’s J-League for JEF United Ichihara.

The other foreigners in the club ranks are Nigerians Friday Gbeneme and Ebi Theopillus Sukore and Korean Minchol Son. Shillong Lajong have been struggling for a proper striking line the entire season.
