Raima’s 2013 Look

For a corporate-chic look, designer and stylist Priyanka Khanna teamed a sunshine orange peplum pencil skirt from her label with a simple white shirt from Promod. The leopard print gold heels from Mango spiced up the classic style.

Designer and stylist Priyanka Khanna suggests 10 resolutions to make the New Year more fun and fashionable:

01 COLOUR HARMONISE your wardrobe. Ditch predictable contrasts for monotone. Match colours/prints for a refreshing change.

02 Don’t be afraid to SUIT UP. Blazers (structured or your boyfriend’s) have sparked a fashion frenzy. Do a print rather than boring solid.

A metallic cutwork blouse with buttoned shoulder epaulets (it also holds the pallu in place) comes together with a light and bright sari (both by Priyanka). The ‘less is more’ look is balanced with key pieces from Eina Ahluwalia — a three-finger haathphool and a Drops of Gold cuff.

03 Don’t fear ROCK-CHIC. We can never have enough of those torn distressed jeans. Put the look together — torn jeans + sequinned tee + bomber jacket + killer heels.

04 Drape the SARI more often. Traditional woven or quirky designer version, saris are cool. Experiment with the blouse and even the petticoat.

05 ACCESSORISE MINDFULLY. Do you really need to buy yet another stack of wooden cuffs or chandelier earrings? Think before piling it on. Invest in pieces that speak to you.

06 Get that NEW HAIRCUT you have been putting off. Change your colour or cut and you change the way you feel about yourself. Experiment with MAKE-UP. Focus on enhancing your favourite features. Don’t be afraid to be glamorous. Begin with a bright pop mouth.

Priyanka styled embroidered track-pant trousers from her S/S 13 line with matching military green copper-studded, racer-back tee and floral tapestry print jersey blazer from Mango. Note: Black is not the only slimming colour. Create a slimmer illusion by wearing the same colour on the top and lower half of the body.

07 DECLUTTER YOUR WARDROBE. Pick out the unnecessary items and donate. Recreate an outfit by adding some elements, removing some.

08 Don’t dress like a ‘chav’. Just because you like a certain designer, it does not mean you go head-to-toe in it. MIX ’N’ MATCH. How about Forever 21 racer-back tee + distressed Diesel jeans + Bata chappals + Fendi DU’jour tote!

09 Embrace VINTAGE. The ’30s, ’40s and ’50s have influenced many contemporary designers. Don’t we love our high-waisted pencil skirts with pussy-bow blouses and T-strap ballerina flats?

10 Finally, don’t ape a trend blindly. Do EXPERIMENT with new ideas and trend forecasts. Be daring, not boring!
