Barpeta, Guwahati in quarters

DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL

Guwahati, Dec. 28: Guwahati, Barpeta, NF Railway and Assam Police secured berths in the quarter-finals of the 49th senior inter-district volleyball championship at Bokoliaghat in Karbi Anglong today.

Fifteen teams are vying for top honours in four groups of the menís event.

The top two from each group qualify for the quarter-finals. The other 11 teams include hosts Karbi Anglong, Morigaon, Bijni, Howraghat, Karimganj, North Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Tinsukia, Silchar, Jorhat and Majuli.

Carrom: The Assam sub-junior boysí team defeated Uttar Pradesh 2-1 to bag the title in the team event of the 40th sub-junior national and inter-state carrom championship in Calcutta.
