Two-day census workshop
- Software to make state data accessible across the globe

Jharkhand’s census details for the year 2011 will soon be accessible across the globe with the state authorities planning to upload all data online through Census Info India — an innovative software that helps in disseminating population and housing census results.

This and more came out during a workshop on house listing-cum-Census Info India Software that kicked off at Ranchi’s Shri Krishna Institute of Public Administration premises on Thursday.

The two-day event, which saw nearly 40 officials from various statistical offices of the state attending it on its inaugural day, is being organised by the Union home ministry in collaboration with Jharkhand directorate of census, Unicef, UN women and some Ranchi-based NGOs. State director of census S.K. Burnwal addressed the inaugural session of the workshop.

Officials at the seminar said the software had been developed by the statistics division of UN and had a unique feature that allowed users to create tables, maps and charts using their own data. The data, uploaded with the help of the software would be easily accessible and meet International parameters.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy director of the state census directorate Dinesh Kumar said a major plus point of the software was that it removed hindrances, such as language barriers.

“We can now easily compare the conditions of human settlements in Jharkhand with those at other places. We can also compare the 2011 census data with that of previous years and see what changes have come about and what planning measures can be implemented,” Kumar said.

The Census Info software was launched in Delhi last week by registrar-general and census commissioner of India C. Chandramauli.

, who described it as an “ innovative and flexiable” database technology that can be used for dissemination of population and housing census results at any relevant geographical level.
