Siliguri, Dec. 26: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee today said state government employees would get an additional 7 per cent dearness allowance from January.
The hike will take the DA component to 52 per cent of the basic salary.
The DA should be 72 per cent of the basic salary according to central guidelines. State government officials said the additional 7 per cent would be in the form of arrears.
On her arrival at Bagdogra airport in Siliguri today, Mamata said: “We will be giving 7 per cent more DA for our employees. We intend to pay this additional amount from next month.”
Now, the state government pays 45 per cent of the basic salary as DA.
But despite the increase, the DA component will fall well short of the 72 per cent that the Centre pays to its employees.
The DA revision will benefit nearly 10 lakh state government employees and over 4 lakh pensioners, government sources said.
