Shreyasi, Sushma bag gold

New Delhi: Shreyasi Singh and Sushma Singh bagged the gold medals in women’s double trap and sports pistol events, respectively, while Sushil Ghaley clinched gold in men’s rifle prone, on the sixth day of the 56th National Shooting Championship, here on Monday.
In women’s air rifle event, Apurvi Chandela of Rajasthan won the gold medal with a score of 395 + 103.7.
In the air rifle junior women’s event, Nikita Salunke of Maharashtra won the gold with a score of 396. Bengal’s Mampi Das won the bronze with a score of 393 .
In the double trap men’s event, two rounds have been completed and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was leading with 96. He was followed by Mohammed Asab (95) of UP, ahead of Ronjan Sodhi and Shayan Masood who scored 93 each.

India third

New Delhi: Reigning junior national champion Aman Indora (56kg) clinched India’s only gold as the country finished third in the A Agalarov Cup youth boxing tournament, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The 18-year-old defeated Uzbek boxer Abdujabbarov Azizbek 4-1 in the final to bag his maiden top honour. A Silambarasan (52kg) and Kailash Gill (75kg) had to settle for silver medals.

Brendan wish

London: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his desire to extend Steven Gerrard’s contract as soon as possible to ward off potential suitors for the inspirational Reds captain.
The 32-year-old, who has 18 months left on his current deal, capped a dynamic performance with a clinical goal in Liverpool’s 4-0 home win over Fulham at the weekend.

PGTI schedule

Calcutta: The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has announced its calendar for the January to May period of the 2013 season. The first five months of 2013 will witness thirteen events.
The season will tee-off with the Euro 200,000 Gujarat Kensville Open, in Ahmedabad, on January 31, which will be followed by six back to back events being played till March 17, 2013.


Chennai: World No. 17 and defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland has confirmed participation in the Chennai Open — a tournament he has participated over five seasons. He had won his third career ATP World Tour title in Chennai, last year.
“I adore the spectators and preparing for Chennai has a very relaxing feeling to it. Support from the crowds is probably the main reason I come back,” he said.
