Gangtok, Dec. 21: The BRO will close the Jawaharlal Nehru Road in Sikkim that leads to Chhangu Lake and Nathu-la from Monday to Wednesday to lay a Bailey bridge as a substitute for a concrete bridge.
“No vehicle will ply on JN Road from Monday to Wednesday as work for the new 80ft Bailey bridge will be done,” said R. Khulal, the chief engineer of the Border Roads Organisation.
He said the concrete bridge was too weak to take the pressure of vehicles.
“This year the snowfall at Chhangu Lake and Baba Mandir is more compared to last year. There has been an increase in the (tourist) bookings but the closure of the road for three days will certainly affect business,” said Gangtok-based tour operator Chandan Tamang.
