Double crowns for Railways

Imphal, Dec. 19: Railways annexed the champions’ titles in both the men and women’s kabaddi in the 60th Senior National Kabaddi Championship for East Zone, 2012, at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium here today. While the railwaymen defeated Bihar 33-13 to clinch the title, Railway eves defeated Manipur eves 50-13.

Bhupender of Railways was adjudged the best male player and Tejasvinibai of Railways won the best woman’s award.

Football: Kshetri Iril Mapal Youth Club defeated United Brothers Sporting Association 3-1 in the knockout round of the Sir Churachand Memorial Football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Seminthang of United Brothers scored the first in the 18th minute, while teammate T. Minlien scored an own goal in the 31st minute. Youth Club added two more goals through Md Asif in the 68th minute and Panmei Agassi in the 94th.

Tennis: S. Sanjoy beat Kh. Bona 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to enter the men’s singles semi-final of the 32nd State Open Tennis Championship, 2012.

In two other quarterfinal matches, Jiten beat T. Pamei who gave a walkover owing to injury, while N. Premjit defeated A. Sarat 6-1, 6-1.
