Company stand on coal project

Ranchi, Dec. 19: Usha Martin Ltd today said that it had maintained transparency in acquiring around 2,200 acres for mining from the Katotia captive block in Daltonganj allotted by the coal ministry.

“Katotia block in Parwa block was allotted to Usha Martin in 2004. Coal mined from Katotia is required to run our steel plant at Gamharia in East Singhbhum. We have already purchased 500 acres directly from raiyats with a condition that in case the remaining land required are acquired at a higher rate, the benefits of the hiked rates will be passed on to the land owners,” said Rajiv Singh, general manager (coal mines), Usha Martin.

Some landowners have notably approached Jharkhand High Court demanding a higher rate for their land.

Singh added the state government, on behalf of the company, was acquiring another 1,217 acres. The company is committed to acquire land at the rate determined by the state. It has also applied for lease of additional 500 acres of state-owned land for the coal project.
