Smooth sail for top seeds

Guwahati, Dec. 16: The first day of the Glaxo SmithKline 21st NETF-All Assam Ranking Tennis Tournament saw all the higher-rated players having a smooth day at the North East Tennis Foundation courts here today.

Ronit Bora, Prithiraj Bhuyan, Hrikob Bora, Pratik Hazarika, Tanay Bagree, Md Iftikar, Rohan Das, Anurag Buragohain, Debashish Medhi, Karan Das, Anshuman Phukan, Pratik Dutta made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the boys’ u-12 singles with comfortable wins.

Over 200 players from across Assam as well as Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram, are taking part in the tournament, which was inaugurated by All Assam Tennis Association president Subhash Chandra Das.

The tournament is held for under-12, U-14 and U-18 boys’ singles, under-14 and U-18 girls’ singles, veteran men’s doubles in the above 35 years and 45 years categories and veterans mixed doubles in the above 35 years category.

The event carries total prize money of Rs 52,700, with players given scholarships from quarterfinal onwards.
