Gupta vs Goldman

New York, Dec. 15 (PTI): Former Goldman Sachs director Rajat Gupta has said he should not be required to pay the global investment banking firm $6.78 million it is asking as reimbursement for legal fees and other expenses it incurred in connection with his insider trading case.

a 43-page motion filed in the district court here yesterday, the 64-year-old opposed Goldman’s demand for “restitution” of legal fees and other expenses. Gupta said Goldman had not submitted “competent evidence” of the legal fees that it could be reimbursed for.

Italy sailors

Indian jailed

New York (PTI): A 56-year-old Indian, who had called himself a “terrorist”, has been sentenced to six months in jail for threatening to bomb a Connecticut-based company. A jury had found Shaneel Jain guilty of one count of making a bomb threat and one count of false information and hoaxes.

‘Rapist’ dad

Kochi (PTI): A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father, stepfather and several others over a year in Kerala. Her parents and stepfather were among eight persons taken into custody on Saturday. A case has been registered. The girl was brought to the police station by autorickshaw drivers who saw her wandering around.

Leopard cub

Coimbatore (PTI): A newborn leopard cub was found lying near a tea estate at Valparai in Coimbatore on Saturday. The workers of Donimudi Estate noticed the leopard and informed forest department officials, who took custody of the cub. A search is on for its mother.
