Patna, Dec. 15: Congress president Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul are likely to attend a rally organised by the party at Gandhi Maidan in the state capital in March next year.
The rally comes barely four months after the JDU)’s Adhikar Rally in support of its special status demand for the state.
Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) president Choudhary Mehboob Ali Quaiser today said the party would organise the rally in the last week of March “to expose the Nitish Kumar government’s failure on all fronts and highlight the achievements of UPA I and II at the Centre”.
Congress sources said the rally was also aimed at trying to gain lost ground in the state.
In the run-up to the rally, the party would hold a state-level workers’ meet-cum-rally on December 24 at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall.
“To galvanise the organisational structure for 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the party has decided to hold the rally at Gandhi Maidan in March. The date for the rally would be announced at the workers’ meet. We will invite both Congress high command Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi. I hope that at least one of them will be present on the occasion,” Quaiser said.
He said the Congress would expose the government’s failures in controlling law and order, stemming corruption, utlising central funds and poor health and educational infrastructure across the state.
The Bihar Congress chief, who was accompanied by party leaders H.K. Verma, Vinod Sharma and Moti Lal Sharma, said the workers’ meet would be inaugurated by railway minister P.K. Bansal, information and broadcasting minister Manish Tiwari and Bihar affairs incharge Gulchain Singh Charak.
