Meet to hone teaching skill

Dec. 14: The mechanical engineering department of Assam Engineering College in association of Oxford University Press will organise a development programme to help young faculty members of government and private engineering colleges to improve their teaching methods.

The core subject of the programme will be engineering mechanics.

The workshop — to be held at the Assam Engineering College at Jalukbari at 10.30am on Monday — has been christened Discourse on Teaching.

The Oxford University Press organises subject-specific interactive workshops in different parts of the country in order to train teachers and introduce them to the latest teaching methodologies and global developments in the education sector.

Conducted by a pool of handpicked resource persons, these workshops focus on innovative techniques and tools for effective teaching and integrating technology in education to help teachers in the use of courses and support material.

According to a statement issued by the organisers today, the workshop will be conducted by Basudeb Bhattacharya, who is an associate professor at the department of aerospace engineering and applied mechanics in Bengal Engineering and Science University (Besu) at Shibpur in West Bengal.

“Such a workshop will provide a common platform for interaction among engineering faculties, authors of the books and publishers. This workshop will focus on the teaching and learning procedure of the engineering subject and the methods of monitoring the performance of both teachers and students in the class,” the statement said.

“This kind of workshop is being organised for the first time in the entire northeastern region where publishers, authors, teachers and administrators will be sitting together for the benefit of technical education,” it added.

The inaugural session of the workshop will be attended by vice-chancellor of Assam Science and Technology University P.K. Goswami as the chief guest and principal of Assam Engineering College Atul Bora as the guest of honour.
