Guwahati, Dec. 14: Assam’s Sidharth Choudhury annexed the boys’ singles title in the AITA Talent Series (under-16) tennis tournament that concluded at the Nagaland Tennis Association complex in Kuda village in Dimapur today.

The top seed defeated second seed Vitsizolie Nagi of Nagaland 6-4, 6-1 in the final today.

The Nagaland lad posed a threat in the first set, clinching four games. However, top seed Sidharth applied himself tactically in the second set to clinch it with ease. Vitsizolie, however, lifted the boys’ doubles crown in tandem with state mate Zhaputso Khate, defeating top seed Assam duo of Sidharth and Chengish Razdan Ahmed 6-2, 7-5.

A cheque of Rs 1 lakh was presented to Vilasier Khate for his achievements at the national and international levels since 2007.

Ranking tennis: The North East Tennis Foundation will host the Glaxo Smith Kline 21st All-Assam Junior Ranking tennis championship from Sunday.
