- Realtors seek government single-window system for quick approvals

Siliguri, Dec. 12: The north Bengal branch of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (Credai) today sought introduction of a single-window system for the prompt approval of multi-storied residential and commercial projects in the state.

Jittendra Mittal, the president of Credai, North Bengal, today announced that the association would organise Home Front 2012, a three-day property fair, in association with The Telegraph here from December 14.

“We are focusing on the vertical extension of properties, instead of horizontal expansion, to save space and accommodate more people. For this purpose, we need sanctions from different agencies and government departments. This, however, takes a long time and if we are setting up townships, we need to wait for even two years for the sanctions,” said Mittal.

“We want a single-window system on the lines of one existing in Gujarat to be made operational in Bengal. In Ahmedabad, permissions for building plans can be obtained easily, subject to certain conditions like adherence to rules and norms. There, the projects would be inspected only after they are executed. This saves time,” he added.

The builders’ association said 75 exhibitors would participate in the fair to be held at City Garden, a banquet hall in Sevoke Road.

“Developers from Calcutta, Chennai and Siliguri, companies which sell property-related products and banks and other financial institutions will put up their stalls. There would be options for spot booking of properties and submission of applications for bank finance,” said Mittal.

The fair, to be managed by Sape Communications, will provide an opportunity for property developers, real-estate agents and buyers to interact under one roof. “The event will also showcase prime properties, building materials, construction technologies and home loan services,” said an organiser.

During the fair, Mittal said, a seminar titled “Vision North Bengal” would be conducted at 5.30pm on December 15. The event will be inaugurated by Siliguri MLA Rudranath Bhattacharya at 4.30pm on Friday.
