‘Scolari right choice’

Calcutta: Former Brazil coach Dunga is happy with the change at the helm of their national side.

Dunga, who arrived in the city to play for Brazil Masters against IFA All Stars XI on Saturday, hailed the Brazilian football association’s decision to appoint Luiz Felipe Scolari in place of Mano Menezes.

“Although only 18 months remain before we play our first match of the World Cup, I completely support the association’s decision to appoint Scolari... Under the present scenario, he is the perfect choice. He knows most of the players in the side and knows their pulse. I don’t think he will be facing any difficulty in helming the side. He is the right man,” the 1994 World Cup winning captain told a media conference.

Juninho, the 2002 World Cup winning midfielder, also shared Dunga’s views. He said that the move to appoint Scolari could turn out to be a masterstroke because Scolari knows how to turn things around

“When Scolari took over our side in 2001, he really motivated us… He understands the players’ psyche. He is a great coach and can manage really well. Along with (technical director) Carlos Alberto Parreira, he could turn things around,” Juninho said.

Juninho, however, stated that Scolari’s biggest challenge will be to help the players overcome pressure.

“Since Brazil will be playing at home, there will be enormous pressure on the players. So, dealing with the pressure will be very important. I am sure Scolari is aware of that and will devise a plan to overcome pressure… ” Juninho said. He believes that Lionel Messi will be the player to watch out for in Brazil. “Messi is the best player in the world right now… I think he will be winning the Ballon d’Or for the fourth time in a row. But then most of his success should be attributed to the Barcelona midfielders..”
