A 29-year-old married woman, hailing from an influential background, was found dead with a bullet in her stomach at Kute village in Nagri police station area of Ranchi on Wednesday afternoon.

It is not clear whether Puja Singh — the niece of former Garhwa MLA Girinath Singh — committed suicide, was victim of accidental firing or was killed by someone.

While the MLA is crying murder, SP (rural) A.V. Minz said they were taking help from the CID and ballistic experts to ascertain whether the death was murder or suicide. “Fingerprint experts are on the job. The firearm found on the spot belongs to husband of the deceased, Kunal Nath Shahdeo,” Minz said.

Kunal is close to Ranchi MP Subodh Kant Sahay, while his father Lal Kashi Nath Shahdeo was arrested for waging a civil war in 2002.
